It was considered that by reforming the State institution as well as involving non-state mechanisms, government authorities can actually effectively devise new mechanisms to control and prevent crime. Crime prevention comprises of any acts taken by the public institutions or private individuals which are aimed at reducing the damage done by the acts which are defined as criminal acts by the State’s criminal laws. Public protection has become one of the key public issues and much legislation has been done in this regard to ensure that society can effectively deal with the criminal few and develop public protection to the point where society as a whole feel more safer.( Ashworth & Zedner,2012) The above definition therefore critically suggests the involvement of private individuals in crime prevention. The public and private partnership in order to prevent crime are considered as an essential tool in order to ensure that the society as a whole functions crime free. All companies share the same issues, successes, and dilemmas, but one of the issues that seem to be more prevalent in high-stress jobs, such as sales or other fast-paced jobs, is that of stress and the burnout associated with it. Stress is something that affects different employees in different ways, from getting depressed to not eating and can be detrimental to their well-being and to the company also. Companies are also affected negatively with how employees perform, the rise of absenteeism is higher and the work performance takes a huge dip financially and with negative outcomes. There are many things that can be done to try and assist with this issue and try and help employees. How does stress and burnout come to happen? Many times individuals are placed into different types of roles in their company or organization that they work at and that sometimes comes with different jobs that need to be completed by a certain date or they are placed in an environment that is just stressful for them. Individuals can find stress in many things in their daily lives. It can be the individuals you work with, the daily traffic in the morning or after work, the manager or director that heads your department, and also the relationships you have with co-workers, to name a few. The unfortunate result from dealing with these stressors is how it affects the individual and those around him or her. They can be depressed, angry all the time, full of anxiety and those sometimes translate to physical changes also, like weight gain or loss and other issues that may arise from this. Companies eventually are greatly affected by this also because they deal with these employees and their work on a daily basis. Healthcare for those employees also goes up, which means that the companies will tend to spend more on individuals which are not healthy as supposed to those that feel better and are well-off. â€Å"A study of 46,000 employees concluded that health-care costs of high-stress workers were 46% higher than were those of their less-stressed coworkers†(Dessler, p. 309, 2011). As previously stated, many type of jobs or careers are more prone to stress and burnout. Everyone usually tries and associate successful, high paying jobs with stress, like someone working in a high-paced market like the stock market or sales. Although any type of job can be stressful, from being a teacher to working in healthcare, there have been studies of how some healthcare fields are more stressful than other, such as working a social work environment as supposed to a pediatrician. Social work tends to involve those works in certain situations that can weight a lot on individuals. â€Å"Such empirical research as is available suggests that social workers may experience higher levels of stress and resulting burnout than comparable occupational groups. † (Lloyd, King, and Chenowth, p. 1, 2002) One of the trickiest issues with identifying stressors is to actually see what it is that if affecting certain individuals, it can be tough to pinpoint an exact issue and try to fix it as soon as possible. Burnout stems from being stressed out to the point where the individual feels like he has no strength anymore, both physical and emotional from always working too hard and striving to do the best and it eventually catching up to those individuals and they shutting down. Unlike stress, where it can affect someone immediately, when someone burns out, it happens gradually over time, things building up and stacking more and more upon the last thing. It eventually will hit the individuals, even though to get to that point is gradual, people shut down suddenly. It is most seen in high-stress jobs and companies involved in such industries will look out for signs to not let individuals fall through that issue. Companies and organizations are trying to find ways in order to deal with these issues because it helps the employees feel better, it provides a more positive outcome for the company and the employees, and healthcare cost can go down because of this. Companies have started implementing different things for employees to help assist with stress and burnout prevention. There are many things companies can do to assist, from providing on-site gyms to help relieve some stress to providing workshops on teaching individuals how to work around stress and burn out and make sure that they are taking care of themselves. Specialist and other say that it is easier to prevent burnout and stress than to come back from it cleanly. Stress-related work leaves comprised 49% of all disability claims in 1999, twice the number recorded a decade earlier† (Elizabeth, p. 2, 2002). There are many ways to be able to assist in preventing burnout and stress. Like previously stated, companies provide many things to be able to make sure that the employees are the main priority in making sure that they are healthy, physically and emotionally, because this eventually translates into good performance in the work environment. Workshops are also held to be able to assist individuals on helping them organize their lives better and implementing things like exercise, building better relationships at work, and other things to help alleviate the stress of the daily life and prevent burnout from happening. Companies have to deal with their employees to make sure that they do not go through any issues, because they are identifying those issues that affect them and understand that the employee is the main component of any company. It saves money, helps with employees feeling better about themselves and ultimately it produces good things for the company as a whole.

Legalizing Recreational Drugs

A recreational drug is categorized as any substance with pharmacologic effects that is either taken voluntarily for personal pleasure, or for satisfaction rather than for medicinal purposes such as cocaine, marijuana, or ecstasy. These types of drugs are easily found and are used by more than 22 million Americans ages 12 and older; nearly nine percent of the U. S. population. If these types of drugs were to be made legal, a positive change in the economy would be the ultimate outcome.In 1961, the United Nations implemented an international treaty that limited drug roduction and trafficking. The â€Å"war on drugs†, a term that was created by Richard Nixon a decade later, in reference to said treaty, has been going on for over fifty years now. The original objective of the â€Å"war on drugs† was to expel all recreational drugs from the country; making all of them illegal. However Just like prohibition in 1920, the establishment of these laws were to save the nation from the problems the substance(s) created.However, also like the prohibition of 1920, the laws only served o create and support organized crime and has done little to effect the public's usage of the substance(s). The U. S. currently has the highest incarceration rate in the world. The bulk of those imprisoned are due to drug-related crimes. The illegal drug trade has been introducing children and teens toa life of crime. They notice that the minimum wages they would legally receive from their unskilled labor at the local Burger King, is far from what they could earn buying and selling illegal drugs.By the time children nd teenagers leave high school, most of these students have committed a criminal act by using recreational drugs. These drugs are used every day and widely available, people see â€Å"breaking the law' as nothing more than playful mischief; therefore, undermining our laws authority. In contrast to the spiraling ineffectiveness of the U. S. government's original approac h to controlling the issue of recreational drugs, other countries like New Zealand and Ireland have taken on a new outlook on the matter.Instead of outlawing he use of recreational drugs, they have decided to do extensive research on these drugs, in effect making sure that they are safe for the public's consumption. They are conducting clinical tests to prove that their products are safe; Just like new medicine would be tested in the market. If our government would go along with this new radical movement and legalized recreational drugs, like these other countries, they would no longer have a â€Å"war on drugs†. The money spent on inmates in Jails would be greatly reduced since we are not arresting people for drug use.Police can use the time currently monopolized on getting drugs off the street for other, more pressing crimes. Schools could teach their students about wise drug usage instead of implementing scare tactics. Tactics such as videos and statistics about drug abuse and its consequences that will only tell you to never purchase or use them are simply in effective; that Just leads to ignorant abuse in the future. All legalized drugs can be sold by trust worthy companies instead of fellow schoolmates or sketchy street dealers.These drugs can be bought legally, by someone of government consented age, in proper packages witn appropriate warning labels; similar to the way that cigarettes and alcohol are. In conclusion, legalizing recreational drugs goes far beyond â€Å"right and wrong† if you look at the issue in a practical manner. The problem of illegal recreational drugs has only been increasing with time. The current policies in place are Just not working. A new, radical approach could be the ultimate solution to the U. S. government's uphill battle. After all, the legalizing has already begun, hasn't it?

Under the lease the tenants were obliged to keep the premises in good repair, and in October 1874, they landlord gave them 6 months notice to do some repairs, stating that if they were not done in that time, the lease would be forfeited. In November, the two parties began to negotiate the possibility of the tenants buying the lease, the tenants stating that in the mean time they would not carry out the repairs. By December, the negotiations had broken down, and at the end of the six month notice period, the landlord claimed that the lease was forfeited because the tenants had not done the repairs. The House of Lords held, that the landlords conduct was an implied promise to the tenants that he would not enforce the forfeiture at the end of the notice period, and in not doing the repairs the tenants had been relying on the promise the six month notice period had started again from the date when the negotiations broke down. The promise was held to be binding. These principles were applied 70 years later by Lord Denning in Central London Property Trust Ltd v High Trees House Ltd (1947). The case involved a block of flats owned by the plaintiffs. In September 1939, the plaintiffs had leased the block to the defendants, who planned to rent out the individual flats, use to income to cover their payments on the lease, and make a profit on top. Unfortunately, their plans were spoiled by the fact that the Second World War had just broken out, and many people left London, making it difficult to find tenants. As a result, many of the flats were left empty. The plaintiffs therefore agreed that the tenants could pay just half could pay just half the ground rent stipulated in the lease. By 1945, the flats were full again, and the plaintiffs claimed the full ground rent for the last two quarters of 1945. The plaintiffs stated that the agreement was only ever intended to last until the war was over, or the flats fully let, whichever was the sooner. Both events had happened by the time payment for the last two quarters of 1945 were due, and so they believed they were entitled to full payment for that period. The court accepted this agreement, holding that full rent was payable for the last two quarters in question, and from then on. Of more importance is the fact that Lord Denning went onto state that the plaintiffs would not have been entitled to recover the rent for the period 1940-1945, even though there was no consideration for the promise to accept the reduced rent, because of the equitable principle laid down in Huges. By accepting the reduced rent for the wartime period, they lost their right to claim for arrears of rent. Defined by Lord Cairnes: If parties who have entered into definite and distinct terms involving certain legal results (suing if terms are not met/breaches) certain penalties or legal forfeiture after wards by their own act or with their own consent enter upon a course of negotiations (negotiating for the tenants to possibly buy the lease) which has the effect of leading one of the parties to suppose that the strict rights arising under the contract will not be enforced (the promise to forfeit the lease), or will be kept in suspense, or held in abeyance, the person who might otherwise have enforced those rights (the landlord) will not be allowed to enforce them where it would be inequitable having regard to the dealings which have thus taken place between the parties (the negotiating period).

Spring 2012 WOU Dance Concert Essay Attending the Spring Dance concert was a fun learning experience. I am glad that this was a required assignment for this dance class because if it was not required I am sure I would not have attended . The variety of dances have taught me different things, and one of them is that you do not have to do complex moves in order to dance. The dance I have decided to write about is Voicing Acceptance choreographed my Nancy Sorensen. There are many reasons why I have chosen to do my paper on this specific dance. I will discuss how the sound or movement, lighting,movement and females/males contribute to the overall success of the dance piece. First, I will discuss the message of the dance piece and how the sound/music contribute to the achievement of dance piece . The dance was about students expressing their feelings towards dance. Each of them did a recording of them speaking and that recording was played at the While the recording was playing the student was dancing. I like the sound and music because it supported the dance. The dance just as the music and sound was soft and emotional. The students were really good at expressing the music and what they feel with facial expressions. For example some of them were smiling and some were serious. The dance piece supports the title because hey are voicing their personal opinion on why they are attracted to dance.As the sound was playindg there was a pattern I saw which was that every student would dance as their recording was playing. The lighting on stage made this dance piece be even better. The lighting during the dance was great. When everyone was dancing the light was constant. But, when a particular student was dancing they would use a spot light on him or her. I really liked the idea of putting a spot light on each student when their recording was playing, because we as the could identify the student. While the student was dancing the lights were pointed towards him/her. Their dancing was both imaginative and communicative. I think that it was imaginative because you hadhave to imagine what each movement was about, while at the same time was communicative, because they were telling the audience what they felt and they were also communicating through body language. For example, when a student was dancing he used his arms and it went well with the sound and music. The movement of their hands was soft and it was slow just like the music. The idea of incorporating females and males into the dance helped this dance piece be great. In the recording a student said that many people stereotype dance. They said that dance is only for females, but Voicing Acceptance proved that this is wrong, anyone can dance. Having females and males gave the dancers the opportunity to have a partner and together they were able to express what they felt. In conclusion, definitively my favorite dance was voicing acceptance by Nancy Sorensen. throughtout my paper I have explained why I think how the sound or movement, lighting,movement and females/males contribute to the overall success of the dance piece. Overall the dance concert was great. I got the opportunity to enjoy different types of dances. This dance made me really emotional. I loved the way each student expressed themselves; I was almost going to cry. I believe that one of the purposes of this dance was to get in the audiences heart and it really did.

The mind of a killer is one that is not easily comprehended. The events of their lives deeply root and morph themselves into disturbed thoughts and mind sets that fuel a killer to commit murder. In Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, the case of the quadruple homicide of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas involved murderers who were two very different individuals that had teamed up to commit an important â€Å"score†. Perry Smith’s past proves to be highly influential his psychological state of mind. He grew up in an unstable home as his mother was an alcoholic and his father remained absent for long periods during his life. His home life was very insolvent as a child until his parents divorced when he was six years old. After that, he was sent to a Catholic orphanage where he was punished by the nuns. Whenever Smith would wet the bed, the nuns would beat him. Perry states, â€Å"I had weak kidneys and wet the bed every night. I was severely beaten by the cottage mistress, who had called me names and made fun of me in front of all the boys† (275). First signs of his disturbed psychological state were brought up around this time. â€Å"She was later discharged from her job. But this never changed my mind about her and what I wish I could have done to her and all the people who made fun of me† (275). His father then came, ... ...m all while Dick collected the shells from the gun. Dick’s suffering from a character disorder is different from Perry suffering from schizophrenia because while Dick’s disorder still affects his actions and thought process, Perry’s keeps him blind to his actions and how they are wrong. While Perry and Dick were on two different sides of the psychological realm, it did not stop them from working together to execute the murders of the Clutter family. Capote’s portrayal of Perry and Dick provides an insight into the minds of the killers themselves and brings the reader a better understanding of the crime. The explanation of their past and what led them to their psychological disturbed states helps one to understand why the two men, although virtually complete different with their problems, were able to execute one of the most heinous murders in American history.

He turned out to be a drag in the department, purposely creating problems for Mr.. Kumar. In MIL the annual increments and general raises were given as a policy to every employee who is termed as.
